Grogu, often referred to as "The Child" or colloquially as "Baby Yoda," is a character from the Disney+ television series The Mandalorian. He first appeared in the debut episode, released in 2019.
Grogu is a Force-sensitive being of the same species as Yoda, though his origins remain largely mysterious within the series. He is approximately 50 years old during the events of The Mandalorian, having spent much of his early life hidden.
The Mandalorian, Din Djarin, initially sought to deliver Grogu to remnants of the fallen Galactic Empire. However, Djarin grew protective of the child and ultimately chose to protect him from the Empire's nefarious purposes, leading to the core conflict of the first two seasons.
